WHAT IS XMAN?

Answer

XMAN is a race involving trail running and 30 to 40 different military-style obstacles to cross throughout the race on a 7-8k course

HOW IS THIS RACE DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER BIG OBSTACLE RACES?

Answer

This race is 100% made in Quebec: By participating in XMAN you will live the experience of an authentic obstacle course. XMAN is the result of a collaboration of obstacle course addicts, and supported by one of the most experienced logistics teams in the field of trail running and road events (XTRAIL and the Sherbrooke Half-Marathon). XMAN is like a “best-of” all other obstacle races.

WHAT'S THE DISTANCE?

Answer

Anywhere from 7.5K to 9K, depending on the event (excludes the 1K XKIDS event)

IS THERE A KID'S RACE?

Answer

YES (for the QUEBEC events only)  for kids 4 to 12. The XKIDS is about 1K long with various obstacles. All kids under 6 years of age MUST be accompanied by a parent. The adult will not be required to do the obstacles nor to register. XKIDS course is not a timed race.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE LOOK LIKE?

You will find out on race day! Adaptation and the unknown are essential components of an obstacle race!

WHAT KIND OF OBSTACLES SHOULD I EXPECT?

Answer

We won’t tell you exactly what the obstacles look like but here is what you should expect minimally:

  • Running
  • Crawling
  • Jumping
  • Carrying weight
  • Climbing over walls
  • Climbing ropes and rocks
  • Crossing small creeks
  • Going up and down steep hills.
  • Getting dirty in mud ponds

IS THIS RACE ONLY ACCESSIBLE TO VERY FIT PEOPLE?

Answer

Not at all. XMAN is accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete you’ll find what you’re looking for.

I'M NOT A RUNNER, WILL I BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE XMAN?

Answer

ABSOLUTELY!!! With a minimum of preparation, you will be able to complete the course and have a blast!

WILL THE OBSTACLES BE SUPERVISED?

Answer

YES, OF COURSE. If you need help or assistance of any kind, qualified personnel will be on-hand for you.

ARE INJURIES MORE COMMON IN OBSTACLE RACES THAN IN TRAIL RUNNING OR ROAD RACES?

Answer

NO. Injuries in an obstacle race are no more common than in a traditional road race. Often injuries are not attributable to the obstacles, but from the running portion of the race. All obstacles are safe and well supervised

ARE THERE PRIZES FOR WINNERS IN THE SOLO DIVISION?

Answer

YES. However you MUST be registered in the ELITE wave on SATURDAY to be eligible to win a prize. (Sunday ELITE wave not eligible)

CAN WE RACE AS A TEAM?

Answer

YES. A captain can create the team and forward a special username and password created when registering to all other teamates. Everything is well explained on our registrations links.

You need to register your team quickly: nce a wave is SOLD OUT, we WILL NOT allow wave changes. SO make sure all your team signs up early! If you are not on the same wave, you can still be in the same team and have your cumulative time!

I AM INJURED AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE, CAN I GET A REFUND?

Answer

NO, there are no refunds once you are registered, but you can come and claim your TSHIRT on race day (NO t-shirts will be shipped by mail)

We allow to change a participant’s name on our registration page online until 2 weeks prior to each event. In that case, the system will charge you a 10$+tx fee. You need to remember your login credentials you used when signing up to access your registration info.

Any changes of participant AFTER that 2 weeks, will have to be done onsite only at 10$ fee as well. The replacment runner will have to have a printed copy of the injured confirmation email.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A WAVE START?

Answer

If you want to be competitive, than choose the ELITE wave. Otherwise just choose the wave start time that fits you best. Once a wave is full, you have to select another one. The system will tell you when registering online if the wave you selected is full.

WHAT IS THE ELITE WAVE?

Answer

This wave is for strong athletes who want to be as competitive as possible and not being slown down by others. You need to be someone who trains on a regular basis and knows how though the race will be if you go fast.

HOW CAN I REGISTER MY CHILD TO THE XKIDS?

Click on the registration button on the website and choose XKIDS (Note that the Toronto event does NOT have a kid’s race)

IS THERE A MINIMAL AGE FOR THE XMAN?

Answer

Minimal age is 13 years old but it is strongly suggested to be at least 16. For younger participants, there is the XKIDS if available at your location

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE XMAN?

Answer

The ideal preparation for an obstacle race comprises running both on the road and off the road and a strength gym program based on the movements that will be used during the race .

WILL I BE ABLE TO TRY THE OBSTACLES BEFORE THE RACE?

NO.

WHEN AND WHERE CAN I PICK-UP MY RACE STUFF?

Answer

A news letter will be sent out to all participants depending on the event. We strongly recommend picking-up your race packet (with tshirt and timing chip) the day before the race (For Saturday race) to avoid long waiting and stress on race day. All info will be sent out a few days prior to the event.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK-UP MY RACE BIB FOR ME ON SATURDAY?

NO. you need to be there yourself with ID cards.

IS THERE A WAIVER TO SIGN?

Answer

YES. Even if you have electronically signed a waiver online when registering, you have to print, read and sign the following waiver. WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE ONSITE?

Answer

We suggest arriving at least 90 minutes to 2 hours prior to your wave start time in order to make it through the race bib pick-up process and mainly get through the parking process!!!! Please be patient with all volunteers!

IS THERE A PARKING FEE?

Answer

YES. The parking fee is 10$ (CASH ONLY) per vehicule. It will serve as a donation to some local charity depending on the event.

HOW DO I DRESS?

Answer

Wear sports clothing that you are not afraid to destroy. Avoid ample t-shirts (they might get stuck in the barbwire!!!

Also, don’t forget to bring changing clothes for after the race. Your race stuff might be good for garbage…

DO WE RECEIVE A TSHIRT?

Answer

YES. We will give you a TSHIRT with the XMAN logo when you pick-up your race packet. We suggest NOT WEARING it for the race since you might damage it. Put some other non-valuable clothes on or if you absolutely want to wear an XMAN shirt, we’ll have the XMAN Boutique that will sell other cool XMAN TSHIRTS and goodies.

WHAT KIND OF SHOES SHOULD I USE?

Ideally trail running shoes with a good grip

ARE THERE AID STATIONS?

YES, 2 aid stations will be available with water and Pro Circuit.

ARE SPECTATORS ALLOWED ONSITE?

Answer

YES of course!!!! And it’s free!

Question

DO I HAVE TO DO ALL THE OBSTACLES EVEN IF I AM NOT ABLE TO MAKE SOME OF THEM?

Answer

Ideally, you should at least try to do all obstacles. They are made so everyone can do them at their own pace. If you are not able to do one of them, you will have to do on the spot a penalty that might consist of either an extra running loop or 20 burpees, depending on the obstacle. All obstacles will be supervised and someone will tell you how to make those.

IS THERE A CUT-OFF TIME?

TECHNICALLY NO. We want everyone to make it to the finishline! Take your time and enjoy the race and the obstacles. You are here for fun! With that said, we reserve ourselves the right to put out of the race a competitor that we feel might not be able to complete the course or that his health is not suitable for the race. We might also decide to have a cut-off time near the end of the race so that it doesn’t end when it’s dark.

IS THE RACE TIMED?

Answer

YES with an electronic chip that will be fixed to one of your shoes on the laces with 2 TIE-WRAPS that will be handed out with your race packet. You need to return this chip at the finishline otherwise a 25$ fee will be charged to you.

XKIDS race is NOT TIMED.

WILL THERE BE AN XMAN BOUTIQUE?

YES. We will sell some items with the XMAN logo.

IS THERE AN AFTER RACE MEAL?

The meal is NOT included in the race fees. A paying BBQ will be available all day onsite.

ARE THERE SHOWERS ONSITE?

Answer

We will have a cleaning system to wash you off the dirt and mud but there are no official showers onsite.

IS THERE BEER AVAILABLE?

Answer

Each participant will receive a free beer at the finish line (NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE). More beer will be sold at the BBQ.

DO I NEED TO BRING CHANGING CLOTHES?

Answer

YES, bring full changing clothes and SHOES. A towel can be very handful to wash the remaining dirt off.
